I washed mine once and it didn't keep its softness at all.. By The North Face. Rarely wash it, and when you do hand wash and air dry.. had several of the Denali and fleece jackets and followed the advice above, all of them are just as soft .

Keeping a North Face jacket looking fuzzy after drying is possible; however, if you wash the jacket on your own, be aware that it may lose its original look and feel.. from around the house to maintain the soft outer fuzz of a North Face jacket.
Use a front-loading machine ONLY. A top-loading machine with an agitator may damage the product's internal construction. Wash in warm water with a mild powder detergent (without bleach) on a gentle cycle. You may wish to repeat the rinse cycle to be sure all soap residue is removed.
Wash and dry your North Face jacket to make it softer.. balls will bounce around the jacket, ensuring that it will become fluffy and soft once the cycle is done.
